Founder

Cipla, founder, Dr. Khwaja Abdul Hamied

Dr. Khwaja Abdul Hamied took his efforts to found Cipla. After him, his son took the responsibility of the company on his shoulders.

Dr. Khwaja Hamied played a crucial role in escalating the pharmaceutical company to great heights. He brought medicines, such as Ampicillin, which is an antibiotic used to prevent and treat a number of bacterial infections, Aerosol for Asthama, Vinblastine & Vincristine to prevent the Cancer patients, Zindovudive, Etoposide for Chemotherapy of Cancer, Rotahaler, which is the 1st dry powder inhaler device, Lamivudive, Nevirapine, CFC (Chronic Pulmonary Diseased Free Inhalers), Antiflue & Zanamivir, and others. He has been instrumental in the growth, development, implementation, and adaptation of Science in the indigenous Pharma industry in India.

He was conferred with many awards and honors in India and abroad. He received Honorary Fellowship, in 2004, and the Third highest civilian award of the Government of India, Padma Bhushan in 2005. Also, Honorary Fellowship, in 2012, and was also honored by NDTV as one of the 25 greatest living legends in 2013. He received Honorary Doctorate from Cambridge University in 2014, and First Alumni medal, and many more.
